Our Kurdish people have always struggled for life https://www.oplatz.net/our-kurdish-people-have-always-struggled-for-life/ Tue, 25 Mar 2025 23:32:17 +0000 https://www.oplatz.net/?p=16736 Info-Event on Anti-Kurdish Racism 29 April 2024 in Berlin

by borderless collective, Arjin und Freunde

The info-event about anti-kurdish racism took place on 29.04.2024 at a self-managed space in Kreuzberg, Berlin, where various left-wing events, meetings and activities in general take place. The event was organized by the borderless collective and Kurdish activists who fled from Turkey to Germany. The idea of making an info-event to raise awareness of anti-kurdish racism in Germany  arose after massive racist attacks on the Kurdish community took place in the Tegel refugee camp, a former airport with major problems in terms of sanitation, privacy and also security. In order to spread the knowledge our Kurdish comrades shared with us we will publish the notes we took about this info event:

Activist 1:

We had to migrate to this country because it was what we had to do. I worked as a Kurdish human rights defender in Turkey. The Kurdish people have been struggling for almost 100 years since the establishment of the Turkish Republic. From the beginning, the Turkish state has always been promoted as one state, one religion, one culture, and the Kurdish people have always had to fight against that. The Kurdish people had to revolt 50-60 times against the Turkish state.

I witnessed it in the 80s, 90s and 2000s, but especially during the military courts in the 80s, the Kurdish people were put under pressure. They especially tried to ban the Kurdish language from the public spaces. For instance, we didn’t allow my mother to go out on the streets because she couldn’t speak Turkish, otherwise the police would have arrested her.

I was part of the Kurdish women’s movement, and I was selected by it also. You may have heard the slogan Jin Jîyan Azadî (In Kurdish: Woman, Life, Freedom) in the media after the state murder of Jina Amini in Iran two years ago. It originates from the 80s when 5 Kurdish women journalists were killed in Turkey. These women were only able to publish 5 magazines before the Turkish state pursued and murdered them.

Our Kurdish people have always struggled for life. We had to migrate and tell people about our situation. Almost 3000 villages have been destroyed since the 90s. These people had to leave all their lands, they had to leave behind everything they had in their lives. We live in poverty in Turkey or outside the country. All of Europe sees Kurds as immigrants bringing economic problems. But this war that has been going on for more than 50 years is making people poorer. We are experiencing the consequences of cultural and economic destruction. Especially in Germany, the percentage of Kurds whose asylum applications are rejected is more than 90 percent. This is too high. And still Germany wants us to prove that if we return to Turkey, we will have to go back to prison.

Because the war is not over, the war is still going on. Iran is still waging war. For example, Iran and Turkey killed Kurdish people at the same time. And now Turkey is in a war against Rojava. When Turkey started the war, European countries did not act like in other wars. When Kurds die, others will remain silent. And this is my last word: I am very proud to be part of one of the biggest women’s movements.

Activist 2:

The Kurdish people did not commit any genocide. They just wanted to live freely in their own land. The Kurdish people know how to be in solidarity with other peoples who share the same fate. Before the Kurdish struggle started, there was the Palestinian struggle. We are in solidarity with the Palestinian struggle because they are left-wing people and have a tradition of women’s liberation.

Because the Kurdish movement is leftist, we are always in solidarity with leftists all over the world. We reject classical nation states and propose confederalism. Many people have been killed because of nation states. Instead, we propose the idea of democratic confederalism so that people can live in peace. NATO, Russia, China have always cooperated with Turkey to fight the Kurds. Strategically, these countries do not want the idea of democratic confederalism. When democratic confederalism is established and will bring peace, the Iranian regime collapses. That’s why they don’t want this idea. We rely on our own power; we do not rely on other powers. We act in the interests of the people, not in the way of the state. We act in this way, but we also pay the price for it.

In 2023, 60,000 people applied for asylum, only 2,000 were accepted. People from Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq can get the refugee status more easily. Of course, we are not against this. They need the status, too. But it is not right for any migrant to be discriminated among others. We all share the same fate, but Kurdish people are discriminated a lot. In this month alone, 3 of our friends were deported to Turkey. In just one month 8 of our friends lost their lives. People came to live in safety as political people.

Kurdish people are forced to live in repressive states like Germany because they are forced into statelessness. At the same time NATO and the EU tried to close those camps. I was living in an autonomous camp with 800 Kurds and partly Syrians and Afghans where we were self-governing without any state or any other power. And we were not even isolated from people. This camp was in Greece. The Greek people always supported us. When the police came to evict us, the Greek people helped us. In this autonomous camp there were no patriarchal or militaristic values. Money had no value in this camp. Anyone who needed a place could come to this camp. Thousands of people came. This camp was destroyed because Sweden wanted to be part of NATO. And because this camp was destroyed, I had to come here. It was a place where we had our language and identity. It was very difficult for me because it was a very autonomous place and now, we must live under oppression again.

Not only the pressure of the classical German bureaucracy, but also Turkish racism. We were not part of any war against Arabs or other peoples, but because of the state of the states we were portrayed as enemies. When we go to Palestinian protests and we see Islamic or Turkish flags, we don’t accept that. We need to step back from that. And there is a slogan that should be banned in all demonstrations: Allahu Akbar (God is the greatest). They killed 38 of our people in a village using this slogan. ISIS also uses this slogan when they rape Kurdish women. So, you don’t want to go to a place where this slogan is used. But the Kurdish movement will always be in solidarity with the Palestinian movement. We have a good relationship with the Palestinian movement because their view of the world has a democratic perspective. But unfortunately, they create artificial movements to destroy this movement. I am telling you this because the Palestinian and Kurdish movements have the same fate. In Kurdistan, the Hamas-like Hezbollah (Kurdish, not the Lebanese one) was established and they were killing the Kurdish people. They were also successful. Together with Hamas they are now very large. But I don’t want to be misunderstood. In Palestine there is no justification for raping women, killing children, etc. But for Palestine, Hamas is not a good option for women and children. But most importantly, we need a perspective other than being anti-war. We need to say that we are against genocide, against murder. Germany is very problematic towards the Kurdish people and the Palestinian people. And people are the defenders of truth.

Activist 3:

I will be keeping this short. Let me add that 6 Kurdish TV channels in France were shut down. There were also negative incidents against Kurds in Europe. In Erfurt, a Kurdish refugee committed suicide leaving his wife and 6 children. Another friend who was rejected in Germany drowned in the sea while trying to go to the UK. Many Kurdish refugees committed suicide in the UK. My friends have already talked about the PKK. A mosaic of many people, Armenians, Syrians, Assyrians… When you apply for asylum, it’s as if they give us a kind of test, we must show or prove what we will go through or what we have gone through if we return to Turkey as Kurds or Alevits.

Germany made this dirty deal not to take in refugees with a country where most journalists, human rights defenders, lawyers, majors, etc. are in jail. Germany knows that there is no democracy and justice system in Turkey. But they made these deals, and they ignore the facts because Turkey is a strong NATO ally. As Kurdish refugees in Germany we don’t want positive discrimination. Refugees are all the same. Refugees from the mullah regime in Iran, refugees from Ukraine. But when it comes to Turkey, all European countries will continue their oppressive policies. What should we talk about? We should talk about all the massacres.

All asylum interviews normally take 2 hours but ours takes 6 hours, a whole day. We expect the same treatment as other refugees. When Rojava is being bombed, the West is silent. Europe does not raise its voice when people are imprisoned. If we want a better world, we must defend peace and humanity.

Kürt Karşıtı Irkçılık Hakkında Bilgi Etkinliği 29.04.2024, Berlin

by borderless collective, Arjin und Freunde

Yunan halkı bizi her zaman destekledi.

Selber Machen(Kendin Yap) Konferansı Ve 1 Mayıs https://www.oplatz.net/selber-machenkendin-yap-konferansi-ve-1-mayis/ https://www.oplatz.net/selber-machenkendin-yap-konferansi-ve-1-mayis/#respond Tue, 02 May 2017 10:51:19 +0000 https://www.oplatz.net/?p=13088 1 Mayıs arefesine denk gelen hafta sonunda, Selber Machen(Kendin Yap) adlı konferans düzenlendi.

Cała władza w ręce kobiet*

Cała władza w ręce kobiet*

Wezwanie do udziału w demonstracji z okazji Międzynarodowego Dnia Kobiet*.

8 marca 2017, godz.16:30 Warschauer Str. (róg Revaler Str.) – 18:00 Oranienplatz

Solidarnie podajemy sobie ręce i wspólnie walczymy.

– 18:00 Oranienplatz – Berlim
Nós nos rebelamos contra o sistema!
Nós lutamos e organizamos nosso trabalho e nossas vidas
CALLING FOR THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN*S STRUGGLE DEMO
8TH MARCH 2017
DEMO BEGIN: 16:30 WARSCHAUER STR. CORNER REVALER STR.(Demo will pass through Skalitzer Strasse and end in Oranienplatz)
KUNDGEBUNG: 18:00 ORANIENPLATZAll Power to the Women* **Calling for the International Women*s Struggle demo, on 8 of March 2017,16:30 Warschauer Str. corner Revaler Str. – 18:00 Oranienplatz

We rebel against the system!

We struggle and organize our work and our lives.

We defend ourselves against the exploitation of our bodies.

We mobilize for social and political justice.

As we always did!

We will not be instrumentalized to legitimize state and social racism. This Silvester we witnessed how in the heart of Europe, at the Cologne Cathedral, an apartheid system was created – under the pretext of protecting women*. We fight against this manipulation and we will not be played against our sisters* and brothers*.

We against every form of oppression of the patriarchal system, that inflicts exploitation, poverty, war, flight, and violence. We join hands in solidarity and we struggle together.

Capitalism relies on the economic dependence of women* and their unpaid, unfree and unrecognized labor. No matter how wretched work opportunities – legal or illegalized – are, women* always get the worse conditions. There is no liberation for women* in this system. White supremacy enriches itself through racism and class privilege. Our feminism is about justice on gender, race and class!

We organize against the exploitation of the capitalist and imperialist system, whose bloody profits aim to silence us, and call for PROTEST.

Women* in war, on the run and on escape routes, are exposed to additional attacks as women*. In the camps, prisons, authorities and courts, women must cope with sexual violence from police and state powers. Rape is used as a weapon of war and as a means of torture. Women* fight everywhere, they fight in the smallest political unit of the family, they fight in the organized resistance.

We organize against sexist violence, whether it is exercised by an exploitative capitalist society or by dictatorial regimes.

A woman*’s body is abducted, enslaved, sold, exploited, and colonized. We are urgently calling for the end of femicides and hate crimes against Trans*women.

Worldwide women* resist. Our rage and our collective resistance, our dreams and our hopes strengthen our international women*’s struggle.

Let’s go out to the streets on the 8th of March, the International Day of Women*‘s Struggle, and protest together!

16:30 Warschauer Str. / Revaler Str. – 18:00 Oranienplatz

Poziv na demonstraciju internacionalne borbe žena, 8. mart 2017
Moć ženama*
Poziv na demonstraciju internacionalne borbe žena, 8. mart 2017
16:30 Warschauer Str. ugao Revaler Str. – 18:00 Oranienplatz
Naš bes i kolektivan otpor, naši snovi i nade ojačavaju našu međunarodnu borbu žena.

Tout le pouvoir aux femmes* // All Power to the Women*

16h30 : Croisement Warschauer Str./Revaler Str. – 18h00 : Oranienplatz

All Power to the Women*

Aufruf zur internationalistischen Frauen*kampf demo am 8. März 2017,

16:30 Warschauer Str./Ecke Revaler Str. – 18:00 Oranienplatz

و Revaler Str.
Oranienplatz

DAILY RESISTANCE IS AN INSTRUMENT OF ORGANIZATION

Now we are publishing the third issue of our newspaper. We have distributed five thousand copies of its first issue. Local initiatives played an important role in that practice. However, we would like to stress that Daily Resistance is not only about publication and distribution. This newspaper is an instrument of organization. Every local initiative should aim to establish lasting bonds through this newspaper. Every local initiative can form a Daily Resistance committee. Such a committee should undertake tasks such as distributing the newspaper, writing for the newspaper, produce news and visual material for the newspaper and forming new relations for the newspaper. Handing copies of the newspaper to the people is not the only goal here. One should communicate with the people those who would receive the paper. Information on the problems of the refugee camps where this newspaper is distributed and ideas for possible solutions to those problems should be circulated. Every local group can form a meeting centre wherever it is possible. Meetings can be organized with people to whom this newspaper is delivered. Each local initiative can organize events – film screenings, debates, reading activities – depending on their individual conditions.

We are acting with the perspective of alternative media. Therefore, we encourage the distributors and the readers of this newspaper to present their critique, proposals and contributions to the process.

We aim to relay the information based on our experience of refugee resistance to the newly coming refugees and to anticapitalist and antifascist movements. In line with this purpose, we published our journal, Movement Magazine, and we shared this experience through exhibitions, films, texts and photographs. We aim to enhance, expand and strengthen this practice by publishing Daily Resistance.

The number of the refugees has increased in Germany and in the rest of Europe recently. On the other hand, the laws and legal practices against refugees have become harsher and racist movements are currently on the rise. In contrast with this, a decline and weakening of the resistance movements is clearly observed. There were fewer number of refugees in the years between 2012 and 2015; that was the period when we gained certain rights to a certain extent. There was a fairly more dynamic street struggle. What does this comparison show us? That the resistance movement do not arise spontaneously. Some people should conduct a meticulous and planned work to organize the movement and resistance. In those years between 2012 and 2015 we were involved in a practice: knocking the doors of refugees one by one. We organized meetings in every city. A wilful intervention was at work.

Through Daily Resistance Newspaper, we can reactivate the resistance movement which is apparently at its decline. For that, all activists should take responsibility and do effort. The understanding of the anticapitalist and antifascist movements towards this newspaper as a “refugee newspaper” is an incomplete one. The refugee question is a question of warfare, it is a question of capitalism, a question of racism. The refugee reality is an outcome of all those policies. Therefore, refugee struggle is class struggle since the refugees are at the bottom of the oppressed and exploited classes. It is possible to organize an opposition resistance from below. We have tried to show that in our resistance experience. It can be observed that we played an irritating, disturbing and triggering role in our actions and practices such as long marches, street occupations, parliament occupations, rooftop occupations, party and trade union building occupations.

Even though Daily Resistance is a young newspaper, it has already created a quite positive effect. Now is the time to transform this effect into a permanently organized state. So far the editorial meetings were held in streets, houses or cafés. We need a permanent place. We need a place where the writers, readers and distributors of this newspaper can directly interact and take up decisive roles. We have already made concrete steps for that. The fact that our movement goes by the name “Oplatz” is related to us occupying that place (Oranienplatz), and coordinating our struggle from that place for a long time. That is similar to the names of places that made movements visible worldwide, for example Wall Street, Tahrir, Taksim. Therefore, it is important to demonstrate the Alternative Life in a way that stretches through time and space.

Capitalist states are exercising suppression and besiege of alternative media everywhere in the world. Recently in Turkey more than 20 media organizations including radios and televisions were raided and shut down. These are practices similar to the ones in Nazi Germany, using the Reichstag fire as an excuse for massive crackdowns on opposition. Naturally, European states are closing their eyes and ears to those oppressive, anti-democratic practices due to the dirty agreements and bargains among them. We would like to express our solidarity with those free media workers.

The anticapitalist and antifascist movements in Germany should ask themselves: while people of France rose up and took the streets against the neoliberal labour law, why no leaf stirred in Germany? They can also use our newspaper as a network to organize the united street resistance against the limitation of the social rights, homelessness, unemployment, arms trade, war, capitalism and racism that has increased its physical violence.

Even though our means are limited, we can transform our media into an effective instrument of organization in case all the relevant bodies become active.

Daily Resistance is also a message to well-off segments who campaign, publish books, make films on behalf of refugees and who use us and our struggle as a tool for their own ends. We tell them that as we organize our own action, we can have our own say as well. Stop using us as sheep to the slaughter!

Long live our struggle for Humanization and Communization!

Her lokal insiyatif, gazete aracılığıyla kalıcı bağlar kurmayı hedeflemelidir. Gazetenin verildiği her insanla mutlaka konuşmalar yapılmaladır.

GO HOME

After it was their turn on the queue , a security which was carrying a walky-talky on his shirt’s pocket told them “ you, you, you and you are going home now”. But Hüsnü was insisting on asking “ but why?” But his questions did not work. Security officer was explaining the rules of the city; “ there are women inside, there are bags and valuable belongings of the guests”. Hüsnü and his friends had returned to the beginning of the street with the feeling of exclusion.

When Olcay had heard the invitation on the phone, he felt excited because he thought that its a preparation for a demonstration. When the meeting time had came , Olcay faced the difficulty about finding Hüsnü’ house. Because of experiencing torture and the prison he was in, he was always bad about finding addresses. But Hüsnü came and took him in front of the wrong building he was waiting for. They went to the top floor from the stairs of the apartment which has no elevator.

There were some food like peppers, potatoes on a untidy table in the kitchen. Hüsnü was preparing for cooking. Olcay started to cut the foods of which Hüsnü had showed him to do so. Hüsnü was self-confident as always and he was telling that he will cook a delicious meal from his hometown. Hüsnü has an athletic body and he was talking with the friends he invited while he was putting cooking pots on the oven. Selma , Ferit and Mehmet was sending photos and laughing each other. Hüsnü was sometimes making comments by looking at the pictures. Hüsnü was criticizing them ;“ All of you have cell phones that worth at least 1000€ but you can not find any money for other things.” mehmet was putting his cell phone under the hot water and trying to tell the other how good his cell phone is.

After a long preparation, the meals were finally ready. They were making comments about the meals while eating them. The potatoes did not cook well. Hüsnü said that it had been Ferit’s fault. He was telling how could his mom cook that meal. He was telling with missing about the wine that he had been making with his brother in their garden. His eyes was lighted up and it was understood how he hanker about his hometown.

Selma, who comparably was younger than others had left, althought she was here during preparations. It was not good to be late to the refugee camp she was living. The strict control system of their camp was restricting their lives. They always had to live within those boundaries of control system.

Klad was the last person that came for the dinner and he had brought a Portugal wine with him. Hüsnü and Olcay became first people that had tasted the wine. The others were not sure about tasting it. A funny talk started about the terms of “Halal” and “Haram”. there were always restrictions for the poor. The rules that decide what to do and what not to do; all were decided by traditions, religions and systems. They all had decided to go beyond those boundaries little bit this evening. There were New Year preparations in all parts of the city. The other parts of the society were making preparations of holiday and entertainment. But they were far behind of this idea of including this atmosphere.

Hüsnü; “ lets do something different tonight, like going to the night club”. Olcay was an older refugee compare to the others and he knew the life in the city better than others. Because he had some experiences. One time his roommate from refugee camp in Hannover asked him to go to disco together. The security guy at the entrance didn’t want to let his black friend in. Security guy told Olcay that “ You can go inside but this black guy can not”. After facing that kind of conversation they had to turn back to refugee camp in a sad and disappointed mood. That night Olcay’s roommate could not sleep because of this bad feeling. Whereas this guy could dance very well. But would he act the same to the Europeans which comes to Africa? He told till morning about how they threat the guests, how hospitable African people are… And he couldn’t understand this exclusion in European cities.

In the city which Olcay and his roommate lived, refugees used to meet at the corner of main train station. When you see one of the refugee camps in a city, its enough to go one corner of that main stations. They come together at those places to find someone to talk and share problems because it was not easy for them to enter into the society. Not being able to included into the public places is not only because of the language. Skin color and public status were determinants of this issue. Olcay had written a poem named “ From the Exterior” about this topic. Olcay was glad to be with the oppressed class like himself. He always liked to observe those environments. He always preferred and continued to live in refugee camps instead of living at a flat after he had applied to refugee process. By this way, he could reorganize strong resistance against to these inhuman treatments.

Although Olcay tried to explain those experiences to his friends which are pretty new for being refugees, he had promoted Hüsnü’s insistence about doing something different tonight and by this way the night had started.

Firstly they went to a cafe which is known as “alternative” but they couldn’t find an empty table when they went inside. Than they saw a table near a group of people but there were no chairs. At this point Hüsnü’s initiative stepped in. He asked a woman from the group with his good German “ Kann ich der Tisch haben? (Can I get the table?)”. The woman told him that he had stated the sentence wrong and corrected him ; “ You must say “ Kann ich den Tisch haben?” He couldn’t have used “artikel” in the sentence correctly. He replied the woman in German “ Okey , I got it! You did sure understand what I mean! Thanks for correcting me though!” and took the table with his strong arms and placed it in front of his friends. He found and brought a couple of chairs too. They started to discuss “Artikels” in German after they sat down. They talked about that even some Germans can not use the “Artikels” correctly.

Klad had came to Germany over another European country. He was working as a constructor and sometimes he let the refugees to work with him which have no working permission. They started to talk about the resistance of workers in Köln in 1973. It was known as Resistance of Ford Factory which was declared as a “Terrorist Strike” by German government and German media. At least 12 thousand workers did strike here and most of those workers were from Turkey. IG Metal Union and German workers did physical attacks with German police and as a result, a communist worker from Turkey who leaded the strikes had been deported. After the chat, Klad said that he had to go home. Then he said goodbye to everyone and left.

The refugees were again sitting as groups in Alternative Cafe. No one was sitting at the same table with the locals, that was spontaneous situation. People were chatting and laughing each other in other tables. Hüsnü and friends had played table soccer in the cafe. Again the players were only refugees. They were always separated in every place they get in. After some time they got bored and decided to go to the bars in city center, due to Hüsnü’s plan.

First attempt to enter the first bar had became unsuccessful. They pied at the corner after they left the queue. There were no toilets around. Moreover they did this to protest the rejection from the bar. Then Hüsnü said “ we will definitely enter the second bar, I’ll try a different tactic.” While walking on the street desperately, Hüsnü asked a couple of women to help them; “We want to enter the club but they don’t let us in. Can you come with us as our friends into the bar? Then you can go if you want” but he had been rejected every time ; “No!”

There was a big yard before the main entrance of the second bar and the this yard was covered with gratings. You have to pass through a barred door to reach the queue in front of the main entrance. So Hüsnü and his friends did that and started to walk through the queue. At this time two security came and stopped them. One of the securities was talking Chechenian, the other was talking Arabic and little bit German. Both of them had long beards and were weareing the jackets that are special to securities. One of them was translating was Hüsnü was saying for the other. One of the securities was telling Hüsnü why they can not go inside. Hüsnü was correcting the German sentences of the security; “ Varum oder vuğum?”. He was trying to tell that he is speaking better German than those two securities, that he is a pretty normal person and he was asking why he has no permission to enter the bar. “ You guys are not German either, you are immigrants too; why don’t you let us in?” The securities were foreigners and they were not letting the foreigners to get in. That was a big paradox! If you were working at a job and you make your boss make more money, your color and your language skills were not very important. But it was a huge problem when you try to enter a club! The discussion between Hüsnü and friends and securities lasted long. Finally the securities said; “we will have to call the police if you don’t leave here now!” The second attempt to enter the bar was also not successful. The attitude for refugees and immigrants had became stricter because of the events that happened last year in Köln and truck event that happened this year in Berlin.

Hüsnü was thinking that they were rejected two times because of wrong tactics. He was thinking that they were rejected because they were not speaking good German except him. Then he told that he will try alone to enter the bar this time. Olcay said “ Okey then if you think so, we are waiting for you at the corner.” Hüsnü started to walk confidently through the entrance of another bar. There was civilian security at the entrance. Security said “ Personal Ausweis bitte! (Personal ID please!)” Hüsnü put his hand to his pocket and gave the blue-green ID card (which is only for refugees) to the security. Security gave the card to Hüsnü back and said “ we don’t get the people inside who has this type of ID.” Hüsnü was no longer calm and he became really mad; “ I’m speaking good German, I’m from Berlin, I was born in Berlin, why don’t you let me in! What’s the difference between me and those people!”… he was rioting this debauchery and unfair treatments. Unfortunately, third attempt to enter the night club was unsuccessful too.

Four friends were walking in the street, between people but alone. Olcay had known already that it would end like that but again he didn’t want to prevent his friends. He was thinking that learning with experiences is a more effective method than others. He had tried this method before to organize the working class too. He took the workers to the places in luxury and tried to show them the huge division between workers and riches and told them the reasons of this division while letting them to observe and feel it.

After unsuccessful attempts of going to the night club, they decided to turn back. Olcay was telling his frieds “ Look! We are refugees , we have tried and saw that we don’t have the same rights with others” all the way long. Speaking the language in a good level was not enough, this racism and inequality have had deeper roots. Olcay was telling his friends his resistance experiences. He told about their 600 km long freedom walk to Berlin. They had done this walk because of prohibition of free movement, closure of refugee camps and deportation of refugees. They had teared the IDs up and posted to Foreigners Section , the same ID which Hüsnü had showed the security guy at the entrance. This protests lasted long years. But the protesters had broken the isolation of the refugee camps, they built up tents at the areas they had occupied and tried a communal lifestyle. Occupation of the parliament, occupation of political party buildings, occupation of houses, roofs… And they had organized successful Europe-wide protests against to the borders.

Olcay; “ Yes dear Hüsnü, without resistance we can not gain our freedoms. Having a good language skill is not enough as you see. All the rights that had been gained in the history were the results of long and hard resistances. Dominant class do not give you freedom, rights and freedoms can be achieved with struggle.” was trying to explain his friends.

Four friends got on the metro to go to the cafe where they were at the beginning. A woman who was sitting next to Hüsnü, started to take photos inside the train. Hüsnü said her “ You don’t have rights to take photos without permission.” And the woman said “ Everybody is free, I can do whatever I want”. Then Hüsnü said “ okey then , I will take pictures of you!”. The woman said “ No! You can’t!” Hüsnü got really angry. Some people have right to do everything, some people can not. What kind of a system was that! Hüsnü argued with this woman loudly and for a long time. Other people in the metro watched this discussion with shocked eyes and no one promoted Hüsnü’s riot against to this injustice. Everybody was responsible from themselves. Big majority of the society was not saying anything against to an unfair treatment when it is not harming them.

After this experience, Mehmet and Ferit understood that its not possible to include into German society with wearing like them, with modern hairstyles and with smart phones that worth thousand euros. On the way, they spoke about “wir sind penahende”, we are refugees and that’s why we were not accepted. They see us different.” Refugees Welcome; they’ve heard that several times but in real life it had no meaning. They have learned that with experiencing.

People were visiting their parents or relatives, organizing parties, going to holiday in Christmas Eve. But refugees didn’t have those chances. Instead they were meeting each other at home, chatting and cooking traditional foods. That was their way of celebrating Christmas. Actually Hüsnü and his frieds were kind of lucky. There were a lot of refugees that are living in refugee camps in forests, far away from society and social life and they didn’t have chance to communicate with people. Even communicating with people had been achieved with resistance. Hüsnü and his friends were able to visit some cafes and that had been achieved by resistance. Some cafes were organizing solidarity meetings with refugees.

Sometimes, Hüsnü and his friends are meeting in a cafe , drinking tee, cooking traditional foods from different cultures, organizing film shows and seminars. They are trying to share the resistance experiences with new refugees with publishing a newspaper in different languages.

The next day, they again met at a friend’s house and cooked food, watched theaters and listened to musics that are made about the problems of migrants and refugees. But Ferit was not happy today. They have learned that Ferit got a letter yesterday and deportation judgment is made about him. They suddenly put their heads together and started to think while they were consoling Ferit. Finally they set an appointment to a lawyer in order challenge the decision of deportation. They translated the letter for Ferit. They had stopped several deportations with resistance and struggle. Moreover, Klad told them that they had prevented a deportation with occupying the airplane. Ferit was now more hopeful. It must be resisted against to injustice. Isolation, outsiderdom, inequality could only be prevented like that. Refugees didn’t come to Europe with pleasure. The reasons of continuing war and suffer in their geographies were those dominant powers.

As the meetings continued, the content of their conversations started to be more politic. The words “ war, exploitation, capitalism” started to be heard more then before even in their jokes.

TURGAY ULU – BERLIN

Hüsnü, bunun sorumlusu olarak Ferit’i gösterdi.
