Festival gegen Rassismus 2015
“Selbstbestimmt kämpfen, solidarisch vernetzen!”

Administrative paranoia and tent-phobia in the district of Kreuzberg-Friedrichshain almost prevent the “Festival against Racism” at Blücherplatz!

The alliance of the Festival against Racism and activists from the Protest Camp at Oranienplatz and from the Ohlauer school invite you to a press conference on 27.08.2015, 10am at Oranienplatz.

Attached: preliminary Festival programme, flyer and contact details

Festival against Racism 2015
“Fight autonomously, network for solidarity!”
4.-6. September at Blücherplatz in Berlin-Kreuzberg

Countless racist incidents and societal developments in Germany make the Festival against Racism, and an emancipatory counter-public of people affected by racism, necessary. We will only mention here the racist mobilisation of Pegida, Bärgida, Legida & co., and the tightening of the Residency Act, which is in line with the Pegida agenda. A further example is the character and development of the NSU trial in Munich, which systematically masks the political dimension of the terror network and marginalises those concerned and their families and friends as plaintiffs. Racism is not just a marginal phenomenon promoted by rightist extremists. It is eversince broadly “proudly“ supported by the heart of the society. The positions and opinions of those affected by racism instead, find no place in the public sphere.
The Festival, by contrast, should serve as a platform for people with experiences of racism and represent an accessible space in the anti-racist resistance.

The tent-phobia of the district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg grows ever more absurd and repressive.

In 2012 and 2013 the Festival against Racism had already directed energy against the racist conditions in the country. This year the racist nonsense of the district authorities has aggravated the situation further! For the negligent invocation of a humanitarian catastrophe following a failed asylum politics tents are very welcome, and also as a preventative measure against people seeking refuge. Protest- and festival-tents on the other hand, used to thematize these conditions, represent too great a danger in the eyes of the district authorities:

While workshop tents were twice part of the Festival against Racism, without creating problems, they now pose the grave danger that people could sleep in them! Our reasons for needing the tents have been turned against us, in the form of a recommendation to search for nearby rooms instead. The maximum compromise reached is pavillions open on two sides-completely inadequate for the planned programme. Added to the arsenal of new bureaucratic hurdles was the question about the weight of the stands. The company renting them replied “those are stands that have been erected in the federal republic for 30 years, and no one have ever asked for the weight before.” And all that, after two months without a written confirmation that our application had been received. The district will be haunted by the ghosts of its own repressive politics. Since 2013, when Monika Hermann took office, the refugee protest camp at Oranienplatz has been fully evicted, through colonial divide-and-conquer tactics, and the occupied Gerhart-Hauptmann school partly evicted. In the same period the Görli-Task-Force was established under the leadership of CDU-hardliner Frank Henkel, so that no non-white person can now move freely in and at Görlitzer Park, without being asked for their ID or being immediately arrested at any time. The Gerhart-Hauptmann-School became – after the dramatic roof occupation in June 2014 – a prison for the inhabitants of the building.

In times of visibly increasing racist hatred and mobilisation, the behaviour of the district authorities represents an unreasonable provocation for us. In these times we, the Festival alliance, call for more solidarity and resistance: “Fight autonomously, network for solidarity!”

We demand that the festival is allowed to happen as we believe it should happen: With closed workshop tents for an appropriate working atmosphere, for film screenings and exhibitions, and as protected areas! We demand equally that the district authorities prevent any nonsense against the festival, its organisers or visitors, and allow the programme, filled with emancipatory contributions, concerts, readings, plays and much more, to take place undisturbed.

At the press conference we would like to provide general information about the festival, as well as more detailed information related to the bureaucratic absurdity. The activists from the protest camp would like to give some input about the current situation of the Gerhart-Hauptmann-School and Oranienplatz.

We look forward to your participation!

Still, the support will be continued!
“Thank you for contributing! Together, we fulfilled Sista Mimi’s last wish! The funeral parlour will be paid tomorrow (December 29). The flight to Nairobi will take place on January, 1st or 2nd. Mimi’s relatives in Kenya are very moved that her community in Berlin made this possible. They were also happy to learn that a Berlin friend of Mimi will accompany her on her last journey and attend the funeral as a representative of her Berlin community.Next Goals
Mimi always provided as much support as she could to her daughter in Kenya. She will start the last grade of secondary education in January 2015 and wants to pursue university education. Let us continue Mimi’s support for her daughter’s education! To spread Sista Mimi’s political thinking, there will be a non-profit movie by a friend of her (he also made the tribute you find under news). The film will build a bridge between her life in Germany and in Kenya. The transport and editing costs of the filmmaker who will accompany Mimi will be 1.300 € (500€ for the ticket, 300€ for travel costs, 500€ for the technical equipment). The film will also help for long-term financial support for her daughter´s education.”

———————————
After 20 years of activism in Germany, Sista Mimi died on December 10. Until the very end, she kept on fighting for human rights, lastly in the Refugee School in Kreuzberg.
As long as she was alive, she refused to return to Kenya: Who then would bring about change in Germany? But her last wish was to rest in peace in Kenya.
For her wish to come true, we must pay the funeral parlour 7.000€ on DECEMBER 29! Only then will Mimi fly to Nairobi!
Let’s all contribute towards fulfilling the last wish of this extraordinary activist, musician and friend who lives on in all of us! And, above all, let’s tell everyone whom we meet about Sista Mimi, show the a video of her and ask them to contribute, too!

FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT FOR EVERYONE!
SISTA MIMI, REST IN PEACE!

(Deutsch Unten)

They won’t let us mourn in peace!

Yesterday evening, the Berlin refugee movement lost one of its most important activists: Sista Mimi.

This morning at 12:30 in front of the Ohlauer school, right in the middle of Mimi’s memorial ceremony, the police arrested another refugee activist from the school.

Mimi, our most charismatic human rights refugee activist, Djane, Kreuzberg icon of the anti-evictions struggle, left us yesterday evening. This is a great loss for the Refugee movement, for Kreuzberg, and for all of her numerous friends. She was sick for a long time, but refused to leave the place of resistance in the heart of her „Kiez“, no doctor or nurse was allowed in to visit her. She probably didn’t take her treatment as she should have, but who knows, as no health expert can confirm this. The imprisonment of the school inhabitants, the deprivation of the basic right to receive visitors at home, denied the opening of their international social center… Isolation kills.

This morning, a memorial ceremony took place in front of the Ohlauer school, where she lived and struggled for the last 2 years. In the middle of tears, flowers and candles, the police quickly arrested another important Roofugees activist, right on the other side of the street. No one had expected such shameless, reckless harassment of the activists of the school, while mourning their lost sister.

Already yesterday, a giant police operation was executed under the pretense of a fire escape inspection: security matters. The ten police busses were only there to „protect“ the Bezirk’s handworkers. 3 activists were arrested during the raid, 2 of them are still detained, doors to private rooms were forced open, personal objects were stolen. Obviously the police were looking for some particular people, but 2 are missing from the count: Mimi and N., brutally arrested this morning.

The charges against N. echo the death of Mimi as well as the police raid of yesterday: they want to finish us. N. could be detained for a longer time and condemned with a serious penalty and further faces potential deportation.

STOP the political killing of the movement!

You can kill us, you can bruise us, arrest us, jail us.

YOU CAN’T KILL A MOVEMENT

Mimi’s spirit of freedom lives in each of us

Kundgebung, 11.12.2014, 18:00 Uhr, Alt-Moabit (Strasse), gegenüber vom Knast

– There has been constant control by security since!

SIGNATURES

Anlage 10 Punkte Plan:

Refugee School 1.7. 2014, Berlin

Demands:

  1. We will go on with our protest on the roof and 3rd floor of the school building.

Therefore, we want a list of people (handed later) to be able to go in and out freely during the construction.

– The current demand that the people living in the school leave the school directly contradicts this.

  1. This implies that the people living here will get a legalization of the occupation with a “polizeiliche Anmeldung”.

– The people living in the school have not been registered officially.

  1. We will choose together which projects will be allowed entering the school.

– The people living in the school developed a concept for the International Refugee Center and which projects should be part of it. The district totally ignores this concept and wants to realize their own concept and make the school a “lager”.

  1. We will occupy the roof until all the refugees get a residence permit.

– Again the current demand that the people leave the school contradicts this.

  1. We require a written guarantee that we will not be evicted from this house until our demands are fulfilled.

– Although we did not get another written guarantee the district agreed to this point (see below). The current demand that the refugees leave the school contradicts this.

  1. The district is allowed to proceed the construction under the condition that the police will not use it to evict us.

– The district now wants to evict us with police to proceed the construction and is thus violating this point.

SIGNATURES

  1. All the files of the refugees of the school will be transferred to Berlin.

– None of the files have been transferred to Berlin, because Berlin refused to accept the cases, even though most if not all of the responsible foreigner’s offices in the responsible states (Bundesland) agreed to transfer them.

The district will offer support in this concern.

– The district did not offer any support in this concern

  1. We will go on our negotiations with the Senate and the district. The district will offer support in the concern to negotiate with the Senate.

– The Senate as well as the district refused to continue the negotiations with the refugees in the school. Giving orders is not negotiating.

  1. The people staying here will get the same conditions as the ones who left:

– Actually, this is true because everyone part of the so-called agreement does not get anything and is being kicked out bit by bit on the streets….

Money for accomodation, food, and all other things. The people will get social benefits according AsylbLG including health insurance according to AsylbLG. Cash money will either be paid by Landesamt Gesundheit und Soziales or the district. The district will ensure that the money will be paid by LaGeSo or the district.

– Money has been payed only once in the first month. Afterwards, the refugees in the school did not receive any social benefits. They did also not get any health insurance.

The district will compensate the costs of the house (garbage, electricity etc.).

SIGNATURES

  1. Living rooms:

The people can stay and live in the south wing 1st floor, 2nd floor, 3rd floor. They also will live in the 2nd floor (under the aula). They will use the aula. Project rooms will be apart. The whole pavillion will be used for project rooms.

– The current demand that the people leave the school contradicts this.

Toilets:

1st and 2nd floor south wing and showers (til the next weekend)

– the only part of the agreement that the Bezirk has honoured.
