Until
today, they didn’t receive any answer and there are no changes in this unsustainable situation. What is LAF waiting for?

(Deutsch unten)
Dear Frau Tomaske,

In Soziale Initiative Niederlausitz e.v. Notunterkunft Neidstr 1-2 12159 Berlin, there is a huge problem with food. Women complained to administration 100 times but they do not listen. Last month a Woman tried to kill herself because of being desperate that the food is bad and she cannot afford to buy herself food everyday. also another woman got very angry because of the disgusting smell of the food which look like garbage and she brock some dishes.
The women mad a complaint in Arabic and over 73 signature is on it and signatures are getting more. We tried hard to explain it in English and German to other women.(every body here understand that “Essen Nicht gut”) Arabic women, Vietnamese, Iranian, Afghani, Balkan  women all signed about the terrible quality of the food. it is damaging our health. yesterday women were crying because they do not know what to feed their children. Today at the first day of Ramadan for Muslim people, they offer them very spicy food that burns in the through (this food was the the same of the lunch for us) . Women are very depressed of the food and the administration carelessness about this issue.

There are other issues such as:

1. Cleaning is done only one time per a day (It should be done 3 times as the administration informed me personally)  and the administration does not supervise this process. we offered to supervise it our self (only if they cooperate with us and listen to us). the hygiene level in toilets and showers is most of the time below zero! also most of the time no Soap nor Sanitizer in the toilets.

2.The office hours are  not enough to handle our problems (we wanted it to be as a minimum 2 hours a day).

3.No special food for pregnant women nor for children.

4.The Erste Hilfe room is always closed. although it is written that it should open every Thursday which is not enough of course.

5.The administration choose 6 women to form a residence council who wrote a protocol that every thing is fine in the Notunterkunft and that every body see improvements! which almost 73 women who signed this complaint did not see .

6.We are not allowed to close the doors of our rooms. some time the women in the room are sleeping or they want to get dressed. which make us in a state of panic and fear that the door can be opened any time.

This place is supposed to protect women, not to traumatize them!

7.Every time the administration try to convince us that they will build a kitchen. they said the building work will start on May now they say that it will start in June and will be done by January 2017. do we have to be tortured by this food more 8 months?

they also got permission for us to cook in two kitchens in other buildings near the Notunterkunft, which is good. But still women cannot afford to buy the material to cook because money is wasted on the uneatable food provided by the Notunterkunft.

The Administration informed me and three other women that they would meet with us to discuss these complaints. but we are afraid that they do not listen to us as usual.

We love this place which offer us safety and relatively good life. we do not want to leave it to another place. Nevertheless we do not want to take food from this place because it is very bad and damaging for our health and our children. “we want to buy our Owen food and cook for yourself.”

we also want such measurements as in Fehrberliner Platz.
Please check the attached photos.
also attached the complaint.

Warm regards,

Women from NeidStr

E-Mail an Frau Tomaske vom 29. Mai 2017

Sehr geehrte Frau Tomaske,

In der Soziale Initiative Niederlausitz e.V. Notunterkunft Neidstr.

We women of the world have united, and we shout:

International Strike!

We see sexist shit all over the world. In Russia, domestic violence has been decriminalised. In many places, girls are forced to marry and bear children. We see a rise in antifeminism here and everywhere. At the same time, there are mass deportations from Germany – and now they even want the power to access refugees’ phones for surveillance. Deportation is racist violence against women.
But in resistance there is hope! Just last month we saw 160,000 people come together in Barcelona to demand human treatment for refugees. And in Berlin we continue to build strong networks fighting sexism and racism. Today we come together to define the world we want to live in!
We strike to denounce:

That the state controls and criminalizes our migration and movements – in Germany they now even talk about putting electronic trackers on refugees’ legs!
That state violence is backed up by racist and sexist police violence!
That capitalism exploits and profits from our informal and underpaid work!
That domestic work and care work are unpaid in the home and underpaid in the market!
That this economic violence increases our vulnerability to sexualized violence – and in extreme cases, feminicide!

We strike to reclaim our right to abortion so that nobody is forced to give birth.

We strike because care work must be the responsibility of society as a whole, not our obligation as women.

We strike because women of colour are doubly exploited under capitalism.

We strike to build networks of solidarity and to make the work we do visible – work that creates support networks and vital strategies in crisis contexts.

And we know we are not all here today. And we strike for those whose voices have been violently erased:

  • Absent are the migrants trying to reach Europe, drowned in the Mediterranean sea. Almost 6000 since 2016!
  • Absent are those deported by this inhumane migration system!
  • Absent are those dead due to unsafe abortions!
  • Absent are those in jail for self-defense against a violent husband!
  • Absent are the lesbians and the transgender people killed by hate crime.
  • Absent are the victims of racist killings.
  • Absent are the political prisoners and those persecuted, assassinated, because they dared to fight back against racist, sexist and capitalist systems. For example, Berta Caceres in Honduras!
  • Absent are those imprisoned for minor offenses that criminalize forms of survival, while capitalism’s crimes remain unpunished!

We organize to defend ourselves and take care of each other. Because domestic violence, rape within marriage and forced marriage are crimes! In the face of attempts to intimidate us, we transform our individual mourning into collective consolation and collective anger. We organize ourselves!

We organize together everywhere: in homes, in the streets, in the workplace, in schools, in our neighborhoods. The strength of our movement lies in the bonds we create between us.

We see the women’s movement emerging as an alternative to the rise of right-wing power. And we see that the new backlash against women and feminism is an attempt to neutralize our strength and divide us. We say no.

We want this demonstration to become a celebration where we will build our shared future!

Because we reclaim our time for ourselves and for each other – to come together, not just today but every day!

International Women Space got to know Viviana when she was still living the emergency shelter (Lager) at the Wiesenstraße, in Wedding, Berlin. On te 29th of January we went to the Notunterkunft to have a coffee with Viviana and see how she was. The moment we met, Viviana was already showing signs of stress. No wonder, she was one of the few women living in a shared space of a former Basketball Hall with 200 men having only her bed as a place of her own.

As we tried to get the house to see the conditions in which she was living, the security stopped us on the corridor. First they said that we had to show our documents before coming in. Fair enough. We know the procedures and are used to show our ID’s when entering such houses, but as soon as we were pushed back by the security to the entrance hall, they changed their minds and we could no longer enter the premisses at all. As some discussion continued, came the news that Viviana, by the way, could no longer live in the house and must go to Lageso, at that very same night, and try to find a new place to live.

We argued with the House’s administration that a woman should never be thrown out on the streets at night. We reminded them about the current discussions about the safety of women in Germany, as this has been a big topic in the country since the reported sexualized violence in Köln during new year’s eve. They didn’t seem to care or even relate the events in Köln with the fact that they were expelling a woman from her shelter on a friday night. We argued long, trying to make they understand that if this was their decision, they should at least wait until the morning after, when it would be safer for Viviana to leave the house and search for a new place, but they were resolute and Viviana was expelled. Luckily we were there and could accompany Viviana to the Lageso and together find a new place for her in a Heim, a former school building, where many other refugees are already living.

Here is a short video documentation of her expulsion from the Emergency shelter at the Wiesenstraße.

IN OUR OWN WORDS Book launch https://www.oplatz.net/in-our-own-words-book-launch/ https://www.oplatz.net/in-our-own-words-book-launch/#respond Tue, 10 Nov 2015 00:12:13 +0000 https://www.oplatz.net/?p=8520 Refugee Women in Germany tell their stories

In our own words
Refugee Women in Germany tell their stories

In 2013, we, the activists from International Women Space (IWS), set ourselves the task of documenting the lives and stories of refugee women in Germany. We approached the project in the Latin American tradition of testimonial literature – looking to amplify the voice of the voiceless.

“In contrast to conventional writing about the colonial situation, which is produced at the centers of global power and near the apices of class difference, testimonial literature is produced by subaltern peoples on the periphery or the margin of the colonial situation. Thus the margins of empire are now “writing back” in an overdue attempt to correct the Western canon and its versions of “truth”. Testimonial literature has been defined by George Yuidice as an authentic narrative, told by a witness who is moved to narrate by the urgency of a situation (e.g., war, oppression, revolution, etc.).” – Voices for the Voiceless

Two years on, after many stories being exchanged and many women working collectively on this project, IWS is pleased to announce the launch of IN OUR OWN WORDS. The book contains texts by and about women and includes 10 testimonials of refugee women in Germany: women who could have migrated, but wouldn’t have been given a visa. Women who became refugees in their own regions before attempting to reach Europe by the deadly routes available. Women fleeing war, poverty and environmental disasters caused by corporation’s greed, women fleeing persecution for not conforming to the gender they were assigned at birth. Women running away from their own families for not accepting domestic violence perpetrated by patriarchy.

IN OUR OWN WORDS is a documentation of brave women who have fought difficult realities, we are sure it will inspire us all in the struggle for emancipation. The choice of the launch date, the 25th of November, is not accidental – it is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Violence, specifically violence against women and gender persecution as well as the ways women find to survive such oppressions are common themes of the life experiences recorded in this book. One of IWS’s main demands is the right of women to be granted asylum on specific gender-persecution grounds, without fear of removal or deportation.

The International Women Space is a feminist political group of migrant and refugee women in Germany, it was formed in 2012 within the occupation of the Gerhart-Hauptmann School in Berlin Kreuzberg. IWS challenges dominant knowledge structures and fights against discriminatory policies and practices, which oppose the emancipation of refugee and migrant women and all women.

International Women Space invites you to celebrate the release of our IN OUR OWN WORDS with us on the 25th November 2015.

IN UNSEREN EIGENEN WORTEN
Geflüchtete Frauen in Deutschland erzählen von ihren Erfahrungen

WANN: 19 Uhr, 25. November 2015

Voices for the Voiceless (Stimmen der Stimmlosen)

Solidarity must become political! https://www.oplatz.net/solidaritat-muss-politisch-werden-solidarity-must-become-political/ https://www.oplatz.net/solidaritat-muss-politisch-werden-solidarity-must-become-political/#respond Fri, 11 Sep 2015 17:54:24 +0000 https://www.oplatz.net/?p=7898

Tiergarten13Social Center 4all. This is a good name and a good project and we hope the eviction of the occupation at Englische Straße 20 today doesn’t discourage people to continue trying to find alternative spaces for the thousands of refugees arriving in Germany. It is not only a question of sleeping places, which are absolutely necessary. It is also a question of finding a places where people can self-organize spaces, where projects can be developed, where new communities can be built.

We welcome and support initiatives which take in to consideration that people need more than charity. Today we stood by the occupation for the time it lasted imagining how a women space could function there. How many refugee women we would be able to invite, what kind of activities would we be able to do together. Since the eviction of the Ohlauer School, not to have our own space has been a huge obstacle to our work. And there we were, in front of a house, whose owner doesn’t use, but refuses to let us use. This logic only makes sense in a completely bizarre system, such as capitalism, where greed substitutes reason.

We have been observing the acts of solidarity emerging throughout the country and we welcome such initiatives. At the same time we’ve been asking ourselves many questions. Is this solidarity extendable to refugees who have been long living in the Lagers, isolated, with no perspective to continue with their lives? What is the logic of accepting many refugees and reinstalling the Residenzpflicht, food packets, vouchers? Are the newcomers going to accept such restrictions and Tiergarten5humiliations? We don’t think so. Everybody knows Germany desperately needs migrants to keep their economy going. People who can join the work force now, pay the taxes and guarantee the pensionaries of the next decades. We just don’t find it fair to use asylum seekers for that purpose. Because asylum seekers will pay a high price for Germany to profit from them in the future. Refugees will waste their lives in lagers for the sake of the enrichment of an already rich country. As we said during the press conference: Bring back squatting!

Below the statement of the Social Center 4all action of today:
For many weeks we followed how this state harasses those fleeing from war, poverty and distress. In front of the Reception Center in Berlin people suffer of under supplement and often are left homeless in the evening. Mass accommodations in which people are crammed up without any relief or care, people having to sleep in parks or under bridges have become grim reality.

This is why we squatted a vacant house, formerly owned by the Technische Universität and now property of a private investor. In this house we want to create a self-governed emergency shelter for refugees, as well as a space to organize such a project responsibly. In the following days we want to create a liveable space for refugees, together with everybody who is willing to help. We don’t only want to offer places to sleep, but a room for self-organization processes and the necessary exchange among everybody involved. We call for solidarity of people and initiatives to join this project.

Who followed the media coverage of the last days and weeks will hardly be able to deny the immediate necessity of what we are doing: Refugees sleep in parks even though they get hostel-coupons worth thousands of euros. Why? Because the coupons aren’t accepted by the hostels, because the city pays them only several month later. Meantime the refugees are send into camps, so far away from the Reception Center that they are unable to be there on time in the morning. The most recent idea is to accommodate refugees in old barracks and tent-villages. We can provide something better. Didn’t the state ask us to show some initiative in “welcoming culture”: here you go, this is our initiative. It is now in the hands of the authorities and the owner to not get into the way of a reasonable and peaceful negotiated settlement. If the negotiations with the owner fail, we expect the Senate to expropriate the house and give it to us to provide a self-governed
emergency shelter. “Knowing there are houses standing empty, while you leave us homeless on
the street. We’ve decided that we’re going to move in now, we’re tired of having
nowhere dry to sleep.” (B.Brecht)

„We are here because you destroyed our countries“ https://www.oplatz.net/we-are-here-because-you-destroyed-our-countries/ https://www.oplatz.net/we-are-here-because-you-destroyed-our-countries/#comments Sat, 15 Aug 2015 13:48:48 +0000 https://asylstrikeberlin.wordpress.com/?p=7741 demandsWe have been seeing, through the media, a rise of solidarity amongst the Germans towards refugees. There has been article after article reporting about welcome structures in different parts of the country. Different people are creating websites offering temporary accommodation to refugees, others are collecting basic clothes, food supplements and taking to the refugees camped in front of the Berliner Lageso, the state Office of Health and Welfare. The picture shows a situation maybe found in Lebanon, which hosts more than 1 million refugees, or in Greece, a country facing huge economic crisis, courtesy of Germany, and obviously incapable of offering much more than its citizens solidarity.

The reality in Germany is that we are in one of the richest European countries, which has the proper means and structures to welcome refugees if they wanted. The empathy of the citizens is welcome, their efforts too, but if it stops on the charity level we are done as a political movement. The impoverishment of the people who are becoming refugees is not new and the reasons are in history and can be understood by those who want to know why human beings are using desperate measures to come to Europe. Colonialism, slavery and white supremacy thinking provoked the situation. That is why people are coming to Europe, they are escaping from countries destroyed by the politics of western countries.

natowohnung für alleoplatz

bbturunitecolonial injustice

We, as a political group, see the current situation with suspicion. We are missing the demands of the refugees who have been struggling politically in the streets of this country for more than 20 years. No one is quoting „We are here because you destroyed our countries“, perhaps the most poignant campaigns initiated years ago by self-organized political groups of refugees and migrants, such as The Voice Refugee Forum and The Caravan for the Rights of Refugees and Migrants. There is also no mentioning in the media of the Refugee Protest March, when in 2012 a group of refugees walked 600 hundred Kilometers from Bavaria to Berlin, set up a camp in Oranienplatz, on the district of Kreuzberg in Berlin, and fought every single day for their rights, demanding: „Close all the Lagers“, „Stop Deportation“, „Abolish Residenzpflicht“, „Freedom of Movement for all“.

There is also hardly any mention about the School in Ohlauer Str. – also in the district of Kreuzberg, where a group of refugees are still fighting for the right to keep a house they have been living since the occupation in 2012. It’s been 1 year since thousands of citizens of Berlin supported the resistance on the roof of the Ohlauer School and now it seems that it never happened as the new approach points to a wave of solidarity coming from individuals willing to help the refugees and fight Lageso, responsible for the accommodation of asylum seekers in Lagers! Yes, Lageso must be criticized, but they must not become the protagonists in this story. Lageso cannot solve the problem because their solution perpetuates another problem: the isolation of the refugees in Lagers, located in small villages in the middle of nowhere, with no access to proper health, education or work oppotunities. All that has been already said countless times by self-organized groups of refugees.

We must understand that Lageso becoming the focus of the problem is a strategy and, as it goes, if we don’t pay attention, soon we will see demonstrations of people asking Lageso for more Lagers.

Lets remember: we demand the closure of the Lagers! Not the other way round. We demand the right of asylum seekers to choose where they live, in regular flats like anyone else who is not seeking asylum in this country. People don’t come to Europe to depend on the charity of individuals or to be in the hands of Lageso and their Lager system. We demand freedom of movement for all! We believe that by engaging politically in the struggle everybody will be also engaging in THE movement of the 21st Century – as Angela Davis wisely pointed out. The Refugee Movement is the movement that is calling for the rights of all human beings.

The International Women Space calls for political mobilization. Support, help and charity won’t change the system, they tend to perpetuate the idea of a humanitarian Europe, which is definitely not the case or human beings wouldn’t be dying in the sea. People are escaping catastrophic situations created by the western countries.

It is about time to shout out and loud again „We are here because you destroyed our countries“.

The Refugees Are Coming!!! https://www.oplatz.net/the-refugees-are-coming/ https://www.oplatz.net/the-refugees-are-coming/#respond Fri, 14 Aug 2015 09:53:29 +0000 https://asylstrikeberlin.wordpress.com/?p=7739 By ANDRE VLTCHEK: I don’t really know, I don’t understand how it feels: to live in a rich European country, which is rich mainly because it has been directly plundering many poor nations around the world. Or it has been plundering by association, through its membership in some extremist organization like NATO. To live there, refusing to acknowledge why it is rich, how it became rich.

calaisPalaces, theatres, railroads, hospitals and parks in that rich country are built on broken skeletons and restless specters, on lakes of blood and shameless theft.

Then, when one looted country after another begins to sink, when there is nothing left there, when children begin dying from hunger and when men commence fighting each other over tiny boulders and dirty pieces of turf, pathetic boats, or dinghies, begin crossing the waterways, bringing half starved, half-mad refugees to the European sea-fronts decorated with marble. “We are convinced that we must make the choice of responsibility and generosity. The city of Paris has to show solidarity,” Julliard said. “These migrants have risked their lives crossing the Sahara, the Mediterranean, they fled war in Afghanistan, Sudan, and Eritrea.”

Weiter lesen.
